CER Cargo Group’s locomotive fleet expands – the company orders new Vectron locomotives

CER Cargo Holding, one of the leading players in Hungarian rail freight transport, has taken another significant step towards strengthening its international presence: the company has placed an order with Siemens Mobility for the production of two Vectron MS electric locomotives, which will arrive in December 2026 and are expected to play a key role in cross-border transport along the Danube corridor and in several countries of Eastern Europe.

The CER Group currently operates six leased Vectron locomotives, but the two vehicles ordered will be owned by the company, further increasing its independence and fleet capacity.

Tanja Kienegger, CEO of Siemens Mobility Austria and CEE, said. Our Vectron locomotives will further strengthen CER Cargo’s leading position in the market with their flexible usability and high cost-efficiency. We wish CER Cargo a good journey and every success.”

Wilhelm Patzner, CEO of CER Austria and CER Germany Cargo GmbH, stated: “With this addition to our Vectron fleet, we are taking the next logical step to fulfill our promise of operational excellence and reliability for our customers — through INTEROPERABILITY. Locomotive changes at European borders are a thing of the past for the CER Group.”

The Vectron MS locomotives have outstanding technical characteristics: they can generate up to 6.4 MW of power and have a top speed of up to 200 km/h. Their multi-system (MS) design makes them compatible with several voltage systems, making them the ideal solution for international cross-border traffic. Their modular design ensures long-term cost-efficiency and easy expandability.

This order confirms CER Cargo’s commitment to sustainable and innovative rail freight transport and contributes to the company’s growth strategy in the Central and Eastern European region.
