CER Zrt (Hungary Central European Railway Cargo, Trading and Services Privately Held Company Limited by Shares) has begun its operative activities on 15 April 2005.
Owing to the international expansion, CER Cargo Holding SE was founded in 2012 whose current members are:

2020
Our Company’s strategic goals include strong growth and performance in European markets. This year we took relevant steps towards Austria. on 3 June 2020, in accordance with the strict procedural requirements of the Austrian authority, the CER group obtained the licence to operate in Austria. In addition, our company based in Cluj-Napoca was registered. On 23 July 2020, the Hungarian State became the indirect owner of the CER Group through a contract concluded between the Széchenyi Funds and CER CARGO. The fund manager under the Ministry of Finance provides the company 2.2 billion HUF, in order to purchase new locomotives.
2019
We have successfully completed the procedure of obtaining license for Croatian railway, thus our new company, the CER Cargo d.o.o. has started its operation in Croatia. We also signed a long-term agreement for the leasing of additional Bombardier Traxx locomotives, now three more Bombardier Traxxs are part of our fleet.
2018
From 1 January 2018, CER Hungary Zrt. – the first of the Holding members – use the RIS railway ERP system. This year, our fourth Softronic Transmontana arrived at our fleet to support our significantly increased traffic which is the result of our successful work. Due to the need for further towage capacity, two 186 Bombardier Traxx locomotives are leased by our group from AKIEM.
2017
Our fleet expands with a new diesel locomotive, the 774 CZ Loko “Star Destroyers” and our Slovak subsidiary with a new 740 “Kocur”. Permission for our transport services on Slovak railways extends to the railways in the Czech Republic. The cargo that has been transported in Slovakia reaches more than 1 million tons.
2016
We transport 2.9 million tons of cargo, our transporting capacity reaches 629.3 t/km. Our fleet’s third Softronic Tansmontana arrives. It bears the name of our company’s first Chief Executive Officer, and also tributes to Dr. István Bárány’s 80th birthday. Uncle Pista’s work ethic and strenght serves as an example to every CER employee.
2014-2015
In 2014 we shipped a total of 2.4 million tons of cargo, our transport capacity was 479.1 million t/km. Our first own locomotive arrives. In 2015 we shipped 2.6 million tons of cargo and our transport capacity was 570.9 million t/km. Our fleet’s flagship locomotive is the 6 axles Softronic Transmontana locomotive. In 2015 a second locomotive arrives from this model, as our response to market challenges. A type 242 “Plehács” electric locomotive and a 740 “Kocur” joins CER Slovakia’s fleet. Cargo transported in Slovakia was 184 thousand tons.
2012-2013
CER starts to grow dynamically. In 2012 we shipped 1, 9 million tons of cargo, our transport capacity was 495 million t/km. We start to build our own fleet and change rented instruments to our own. In 2013 we shipped 1.8 million tons of cargo and our transport capacity was 419.7 t/km. CER Slovakia earns membership in “General contract for Use of Wagons-GCU”, based on the COTIF 1999 international agreement. Cargo transported in Slovakia was 167 thousand tons, as export-, import- and transit traffic by rented locomotives.
2009-2011
We transport 1.2 million tons of cargo, our transporting capacity reaches 364,8 t/km. In the “crisis” year of 2009 we had to face challenges like all railways companies. In 2010 we shipped 1, 4 million tons of cargo, our transport capacity was 424,76 million t/km. Despite the economic crisis, our profitability remained: in 2011 we transported 1,3 million tons of cargo along with a 353 t/km. Our Slovak subsidiary was founded whose goal was to – as a member of CER Holding – strengthen and to make European railways transport more efficient. Our carrier in Slovakia was started due to the permission we received for rail freight forwarding services. CER Slovakia begins its freight transport services inland, export and in transit forms as well.
